Last week Paris played host to Maison et Objet, one of the biggest events in the design calendar. Held every six months, Maison is a celebration of everything that’s hot in homewares and product design. This time, there was once more a healthy Conran presence: Content by Conran returned to the show’s prestigious Hall 8, home of the very coolest contemporary design firms.
Holly-Anne Rolfe, Brand Development Manager for the Conran Licensing team, has kindly sent a report from the trenches.
This year we wanted the Content stand to have a really relaxed, easy living feel, very much in the style of Terence’s home. Terence himself loomed large over the space, in three striking floor-to-ceiling canvas panels each representing a different era in his design history: as a young man in the 1950s, showing off his first design; as the canny businessman at the helm of Habitat, and finally, as the world-renowned designer, restaurateur and retailer we see today.
We wanted to inject a real sense of softness into this stand so we teamed up with the lovely people at Urbanara, using their beautiful herringbone, alpaca and cashmere throws, and a gorgeous selection of rugs, to give a homely feel.
Alongside some of our bestselling pieces including the Mica side tables, Aspen sofa, Matador armchair and Wave sideboard were two new additions to the range: the Studio sofa with chaise (which I can attest is ridiculously comfortable!) and the brand new Pelham cabinet range – a deceptively simple storage piece made from contrast wood finishes which comes with loose inner boxes that can be moved around into different positions within the larger frame for a really flexible, unique display and storage solution.
As for the hottest trend at the show – geometrics! These were to be found everywhere, from throws and cushions to furniture design to Flux fine bone china. We’re in for an exciting season ahead.
So there you have it. Au revoir for another season, Maison – we’ll be back!

It’s been a great few weeks for Content by Conran, with our late invitation from the British and European Design Group (BEDG) to host a small stand at Maison et Objet and also heading out to the London Design Festival. Our debut at Maison went perfectly, working closely with our fabulous French agents and creating lots of new overseas contacts.
From Maison et Objet we raced back to London for London Design Festival where we saw lots of great products on display. Here’s our round up of our favourite pieces:
We found the beautiful detailing and craftsmanship on this lovely little love seat by London Met student Luke Groombridge very charming. Terence would be proud.
The CASS School of Design at London Met comes up again in our choices with this interesting woven chair by Alexander Mueller.
As mixed-material objects go we couldn’t find any we loved more than these vessels from British design company Vitamin.
It was great to find some fabulous textiles too – we particularly liked the printed linens from Thorody.
And the hand printed patterns from Rapture & Wright also caught our eye.
